Transloader Spill Prevention

Transloading points, where liquids are transferred from railcars to trucks a vice versa, require specific spill prevention solutions to meet mandatory federal guidelines. Polystar will help you exceed those requirements.

Railroad transloading facilities are required to have a Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan in place if they meet the following criteria:

  • It handles petroleum or non-petroleum oils.
  • It has aggregate above-ground storage capacity greater than 1,320 gallons or a completely buried storage capacity greater than 42,000 gallons.
  • There is a reasonable expectation of a discharge into or upon navigable waters of the United States or adjoining shorelines.

If your transloader facility meets these requirements, or comes close, Polystar has the railcar secondary containment solution that’s right for you. Learn more about our solutions below or contact us with your specific questions.

STAR TRACK is a modular composite system that contains incidental spills that occur during railcar transfer operations. Our railroad spill containment system is easily installed using hand tools. STAR TRACK system components may be used as individual drip pans or ganged together to accommodate multiple railcar applications over several thousand feet.

STAR TRACK systems are manufactured from high strength, corrosion resistant fiberglass. Each transloader spill containment system consists of three, low profile, 4″ high x 20′ long pans (total width of approximately 10 feet):

  • A center pan for railcar spill containment between the tracks
  • Two outrigger pans for railcar spill containment on both sides of the track

Each of the three pans may be used independently, or connected to the other pans via an optional drainage manifold, which fits snugly underneath and across all three pans. Drain ports, located in each pan, allow collection of fluids from all three pans. Each manifold may be connected to a collector drain pipe (provided by others), to a collection drain or sump pump.
