Harness Assembly Strengthens System

Lightweight & Easy to Assemble
Safe storage of hazardous chemicals is a must from both cost and environmental perspectives. The Poly Dike MPE® System is a heavy duty, surface mounted, re-useable, secondary containment system for storage tanks that meets these requirements.
The innovative Poly Dike MPE design allows all system components to be nested and stacked. The system sets up quickly and easily with NO special tools or lifting equipment required. In addition, the Poly Dike MPE is not secured to the substrate, so it is perfect for long term or temporary use in parking lots, sand, rocky soil, muddy soil, frozen soil or on concrete areas. Despite the ease of assembly and site flexibility, the rugged Poly Dike MPE can easily absorb the impact of a catastrophic tank failure without loss.
The primary components of each Poly Dike MPE System are a number of 8' long x 36" tall straight and corner wall struts. With these modular building blocks, you can create a variety of configurations to accommodate different tank sizes and capacities. The light weight and modular design allow quick assembly without engineering assets by as few as two people. In addition, all components needed to secure the wall struts together are integral to the struts themselves, assuring parts are not misplaced.
Each interlocking joint is secured with a Locking Connector integral to the wall strut. This joining system ensures high structural strength with minimal installation effort.
After all of the wall struts are in position, the entire system is tied together with a heavy duty, woven nylon web Harness Assembly. On all four sides of the Harness Assembly are pigtails ending in solid steel D rings. These D rings slide into custom designed slots in the wall struts, where they are anchored in place by the Locking Connector.
Stretching the Harness assembly taut creates a unified, super-strong structure. After set up of the Poly Dike MPE is complete, a flexible liner is rolled out and draped over the wall struts. Securing the liner in place with the innovative Liner Locks finishes set up of a non-porous, spill containment system without damaging the liner.
A catastrophic tank failure creates a powerful wave of fuel that hits one side of the Poly Dike MPE System. Structural support from both the weight of the still partially filled tank on the Harness Assembly and the Harness Assembly's locked steel D rings on the opposite wall allow the system to withstand the wave’s force without movement. Further, the uniquely angled wall strut design forces any flow back into the system, not over the wall, to prevent loss.

SUMMARY: Light weight and easy to install modular polyethylene wall system that, when used in conjunction with a fabric liner, provides low cost secondary containment for moderate sized tanks and tank farms.
The primary components of each Poly Dike MPE System are a number of 4’ long x 3’ (91.4cm) tall straight and 8’ long x 3’ tall corner wall struts. Using these modular building blocks, we have created a variety of system sizes for capacities of from 1,000 to 515,000 gallons.
The Poly Dike MPE stores compactly, as the walls nest and stack. The light weight (40 pounds) of each wall strut and the modular design allow assembly of an entire system by as few as two people. In addition, all components needed to secure the wall struts together are integral to the struts themselves, assuring parts are not misplaced. Each finger lock joint is secured with a Locking Connector integral to the wall strut. This joining system ensures high structural strength with little installation effort.
Securing the liner in place with our innovative Liner Bar Locks finishes set up of your non-porous spill containment system.
When a catastrophic tank failure occurs, a powerful wave hits one side of the system. Structural support from both the weight of the still partially filled tank on the Harness Assembly and the Harness Assembly’s locked steel D rings on the opposite wall allow the system to withstand the wave’s force without movement. Further the uniquely angled wall strut design forces any flow back into the system, not over the walls, to prevent fluid loss.
The Poly Dike MPE is not anchored to the substrate. This feature means the Poly Dike MPE is ideal for long term or temporary use in parking lots or on concrete areas.
The above installation is for new tank applications, or where tanks can be lifted for liner installation. However, the Poly Dike MPE may also provide secondary containment for existing tanks located on a concrete substrate. In this scenario, a liner “skirt” covers the wall struts and is locked to the wall struts with Liner Bar locks as described above. This liner ends approximately two feet (61cm) beyond the base of the struts inside of the containment area. This end of the liner is sealed all around to the concrete with gasket. Steel compression plates are mechanically fastened to the sandwich of concrete, gasket and liner to compete the installation. Note that in this application, the existing concrete substrate will be most of the floor of the completed containment area.
