Secondary Containment Systems
STAR
TRACK™
The STAR TRACK is a modular composite system that contains incidental spills that occur during railcar transfer operations. Our railcar spill containment system is easily installed using hand tools and is portable.
STAR TRAK system components may be used as individual drip pans or ganged together to accommodate multiple rail car applications over several hundred feet.
STAR TRACK Systems are manufactured from high strength, corrosion resistant fiberglass. Each railcar spill containment system consists of three, low profile, 4" high x 20' long pans (total width of approximately 10 feet.):
Each of the three pans may be used independently, or connected to the other pans via an optional 4" diameter x 12" deep x 10' long drainage manifold, which fits snugly underneath and across all three pans. 4" drain ports, located centrally in each pan, allow collection of fluids from all three pans. Each manifold may be connected a collector drain pipe (provided by others), to a central collection drain, or sump pump.
Railcar spill containment system assembly requires standard hand tools. The STAR TRACK pans fit tight against the rail and are secured to the ties with special fasteners and weldments. Installation may be completed by your maintenance staff or by Polystar technicians.
Limited site preparation, no excavation, fast, clean installation, immediate use, non-porous design, superior chemical resistance and portability are only some of the many STAR TRACK advantages.

SUMMARY: Light weight and easy to install modular fiberglass rail car spill containment system that maximizes corrosion resistance and physical strength.
Star Track Systems are manufactured from nominal ¼” thick fiberglass. A ruff-coat topcoat of like chemical resistance is included for improved pedestrian traction. Each system consists of a set of three pans:
• (1) right pan measuring 20' (6.1m) long x 30" (76.2cm) wide;
• (1) center pan measuring 20' (6.1m) long x approximately 56½” (1.43m) wide;
• (1) left pan measuring 20' (6.1m) long x 30" (76.2cm) wide.
The inside edge of each right and left pan and both edges of the center section are tapered to fit under the rail top. The ends of each pan are anchored to preceding and trailing ties with provided steel hold downs.
The customer is responsible for site preparation and installation. A level, gravel or concrete area is required. The gravel should be no larger than ¾” in diameter, without sharp edges and level with the tops of the ties. To ensure good drainage, the gravel should be a minimum of 6" deep.
Options available with the Star Track Systems are:
• Under-pan Manifold Systems. The manifold system is installed below the track and tie level (generally about 14” (35.6cm)). It connects the three pan set to a common drainage pipe that stubs out beyond the edge of the roadbed. From there, the Manifold System may be plumbed into a common collector pipe to transport collected fluids from one or more Star Track systems to a remote sump for fluid removal. Manifold Systems may be manufactured from PVC, CPVC and fiberglass using either isophthalic or vinyl ester resin.
• Steel filter box. A steel filter box with ball valve may be installed in one end wall of each pan. This option is above grade and allows release of rainwater while capturing hydrocarbons.
STAR TRACK® SYSTEMS OFFER MANY ADVANTAGES OVER COMPETITIVE PRODUCTS. THE SYSTEM
• DOES NOT RUST OR CORRODE
• IS RESISTANT TO A WIDE VARIETY OF INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS, WITHOUT COATING, PAINTING, ETC.
• HAS ELASTICITY, SO IT CAN “SNAP BACK” WITHOUT PERMANENT BENDING WHEN DEFORMED
• REPAIRS EASILY AND ANY REPAIR IS AS STRONG AS THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE
• DOES NOT CONDUCT ELECTRICITY
• IS A POOR CONDUCTOR IF HEAT
• INCLUDES “RUFFCOAT” TOPCOAT THAT REDUCES SLIPPING HAZARDS
• REQUIRES NO ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.
PURPOSE: STAR TRACK Systems are designed to be used as a heavy duty, railcar drip pans, or, when connected to a Manifold Collector System, railcar spill collector systems. The STAR TRACK may be used in either temporary or permanent applications. STAR TRACK is a clean, efficient method to collect spills during fluid transfers at railcar loading or unloading stations.
SCOPE: This product specification covers materials, construction and workmanship, physical properties, chemical resistance and methods of testing.
MATERIAL: Premium fiberglass mat and industrial grade isophthalic or vinyl ester resin as manufactured by Ashland Chemical or equivalent are used in construction. A gelcoat surface resin of equal chemical resistance, with the additive antimony trioxide for flame retardance and U.V. protection is included. The flame spread rating is Class II. Tested by ASTM E-84.
STRUCTURE: Fiberglass reinforced construction is formed by combining resin with controlled amounts of fiberglass cloth, mat, chop and woven roving. All models include a chemically resistant surface barrier including surface glass or veil as may be necessary for the specific application.

QUALITY ASSURANCE: STAR TRACK Systems are manufactured and tested according to industry standards PS 15-69 and 41-GP-22 Canadian and SPI/MTI Quality Assurance Report for FRP Corrosion resistance Equipment.
OPTIONAL MANIFOLD COLLECTOR SYSTEM: The Manifold Collector System is a pre-assembled, drain header assembly for use under the STAR TRACK System. It consists of pre-engineered, 4” diameter, schedule 40 PVC pipe components. Each system consists of three downcomer tubes plumbed to a common port that is designed to be connected to a larger collector pipe system (not provided) for fluid removal.
Optionally, CPVC may be used where more chemical or heat resistance is required.
WARRANTY: STAR TRACK Systems are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for a period of one year from date of purchase. Repair or replacement is at the discretion of the manufacturer. Customer or third party damage is excluded from warranty coverage.
